Aim and Scope

The journal aims to support and promote research and innovative solutions in emerging Digital and AI technologies on:

  • Digital Areas (Domains, Research, Technologies, Society, etc.)
  • AI Areas (Domains, Research, Technologies, Tools, Business approaches, etc.)
  • Cybersecurity & AI
  • Software & AI
  • Networks & AI

The journal is scheduled to appear in two issues per year (June and December).

Submission Types
  • For journal articles that are expanded versions of papers presented at a DTR Society scientific event, the Article Processing Charge (APC) is waived. Journal submission is by invitation only for selected conference papers.
  • Authors may also submit manuscripts directly to the journal for independent consideration, without prior presentation at a DTR Society scientific event. These accepted articles are subject to the Article Processing Charge (APC).
  • A Guest Editor may submit a proposal for a Thematic Section of the journal, centered on a specific theme (see: <Instructions for Thematic Section Proposals>).

Manuscripts are submitted on an issue-by-issue basis.

Publishing Policies
  • Research papers, surveys, and industrial experience reports are welcome, including contributions that do not present new data or concepts, provided that they offer a thorough discussion of relevant expectations, challenges, and insights.
  • Articles should be clearly written, comprehensible, and presented in standard English.
  • The results presented in a submitted article must not have been previously submitted for publication or published elsewhere.
  • Extended versions of already published materials are welcome. The original source must be explicitly disclosed in the Introduction of the article and listed in the References.
  • All extended versions, including those of selected DTR Society conference papers, should consider meaningful updates to the original contribution (additional content, narrative, experiments, or references) to ensure sufficient originality and avoid self-plagiarism.
  • Both directly submitted and invited articles undergo the same peer-review process, with respect to novelty, accuracy, completeness, usefulness, reproducibility, and feasibility.
Peer-Review Process
  • The peer-review process may involve multiple rounds of review.
  • Each submission is evaluated by at least two reviewers selected from the journal editorial board.
  • Reviewers are expected to provide constructive feedback and maintain confidentiality throughout the review process, until publication. Authors may opt for either single- or double-anonymous peer review.
  • Articles will undergo plagiarism screening prior to acceptance.
  • Articles will be screened for inappropriate or excessive use of AI-generated content.
  • The use of AI tools for editorial and punctuation purposes is permitted, provided that such use is acknowledged. The AI tool used should be disclosed in the Acknowledgements section.
  • Reviewers must not use AI tools to generate content feedback; AI tools may, however, be used for translation or to obtain language clarification, if necessary. All comments must refer to specific passages in the manuscript, avoiding broad or generic feedback.
Error Handling
  • For major errors identified after publication, authors should contact the Editors-in-Chief and/or the Associate Editor in Chief to request a correction to the version stored in the DTR Society Library.
Ethical Rules and Code of Conduct
  • Authors are responsible for the integrity of the content of their articles and are expected to report their findings honestly and objectively, regardless of the initial expectations or hypotheses.
  • Plagiarism and redundant submissions/publications are discouraged; these standards are assumed to be observed by all authors. Failure to comply may result in the removal of the article from the DTR Society Library, with a clear label of the relevant misconduct (plagiarism or redundant publication). The contact author in such cases will be prohibited from submitting further manuscripts for 3 years from the date of the infringement.
  • Rebuttals, complaints, and appeals are handled by the Contact.
  • Authors must disclose any potential Conflicts of Interest (in terms of statements, findings, partnerships, financial support) and acknowledge any potential bias. This information must be disclosed to the Contact.
Copyright and Licensing
  • For licensing purposes, articles in this journal are published under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). This license permit readers to access and share the published work, provided that proper attribution to the original article is given, including a direct link to the DTR Society Library.
  • The Copyright Form must be completed upon submission of the final (camera-ready) version, thereby transferring copyright to the DTR Society.
  • Articles are published under the terms of the signed Copyright Form. Re-posting and partial reuse are permitted, provided that the original source is explicitly acknowledged and fully identified.
  • The same requirement applies when authors post their work on third-party repositories: a direct link to the article in the DTR Society Library must be provided.
Article Processing Charge (APC)

Open access journal articles are funded through Article Processing Charges (APCs) rather than subscription fees. APCs are the responsibility of the author and may be covered through research grants, institutional funding, or other funding agencies.

An APC of €1,250 per article applies to all accepted submissions, except those based on expanded versions of work previously presented at DTR Society scientific events.

  • Content preservation (long-term accessibility) and Advertising (of published content and opportunities for future contributions) are ensured by the DTR Society Board.

    Up to 12 pages.
  • Extended Conference Papers
    Up to 12 pages, with at least 30% new material (e.g., narrative, figures, experiences, references).
Instructions for Journal Board Members
  • Scientific Feedback: All feedback should be respectful, professional, and constructive, regardless of whether the article is accepted or rejected (see <Peer-Review Process>).
  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must maintain confidentiality and must not publicly disclose, cite, or refer to any part of the article before its publication.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must disclose to the Relations Board Chair any potential conflict of interest with the authors, if the authors did not opt for a double-blind peer review.
Instructions for Thematic Section Proposals

Benefits and duties

  • The benefits of the Thematic Session Chair include:
    – With at least 6 registered journal articles, one article is granted at no cost.
  • The responsibilities of the Thematic Session Chair include:
    – Select a topic.
    – Identify and invite potential contributors.
    – Disseminate the Thematic Section Call for Submissions.
    – Participate in the peer-review process.
    – Follow up on the submission throughout all stages of the publication process.

Proposal

  • Send the proposal to the Contact, indicating:
    – Issue (year/June or December)
    – Theme
    – At least 6 contributors (Author Names & Paper Titles)
    – Provide a Call for additional contributors to the Contact.

  • Register

Please note that for the authors who have been invited to submit an extended work based on a conference publication at one of the DTR Society conferences, there are no registration fees. As such, there is no registration process to go through.

The registration fees apply to authors who have submitted an article based on an open call.

The registration site will be open at the same time as the notification date. 

  • Camera Ready

Prepare the camera-ready following these guidelines:

  • Ensure the paper is formatted according to the IEEE formatting template. See https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates
  • Consider all the comments from the reviewers that were sent with your acceptance notification email.
  • Do NOT include page numbers or any copyright information.
